Countries and pricing

Where live SMS can go, and what messages, numbers and registrations cost.

Countries

Every organization starts with live SMS allowed to the United States and Canada. Owners and admins allow other countries on the dashboard's organization SMS page; a send to a country that isn't allowed is refused with 422 country_not_allowed before anything is sent. Allow only the countries you need: traffic to the others can't be pumped through your account.

  • A few countries where SMS pumping fraud (fake sign-ups that send codes to numbers whose carriers pay the attacker) is common can only be allowed once coss.com support has unlocked them for you. Ask at support@coss.com with your use case.
  • SMS can only go to countries with a price: the pricing page lists every one.
  • Toll-free numbers only send to the US and Canada, whatever your organization allows.

Sandbox environments can send to any number: nothing leaves coss.com.

Pricing

Live SMS is available on paid plans and is paid for like any other usage: your plan's monthly credit covers it first (plans and billing). Free organizations can send in sandbox environments only.

  • Sent messages are priced per segment by the destination country, and billed once the message reaches a carrier (sent, delivered or undelivered). Failed, suppressed and canceled messages cost nothing. See segments for how a message is counted.
  • Received messages are priced per segment by the country of the number that received them. Replies dropped because their number has no receiving environment aren't billed.
  • Numbers are billed monthly from the day you buy one until you release it.
  • US carrier registration fees (A2P 10DLC brands and campaigns) are passed through at cost (when each is charged).

Every country's price per segment, sent and received, is on the pricing page. coss.billing.usage() reports your SMS usage per country (dimension: country=US).
