# Email codes (/docs/verify/email)

A verification to an email address sends an email with the subject "Your Acme verification
code" and the code in its body, with when it expires. The code is never in the subject: subjects
are kept (in your emails, their events and webhooks) after the body is erased. It has no links,
and opens and clicks are never tracked.

## Which sender [#which-sender]

- **Your own address**: set "Email codes come from" in Verify's settings to an address on one of
your [verified domains](/docs/email/domains). The email is sent from your environment, with your
suppression list, and appears in your emails.
- **coss.com's sender** (the default, and whenever your address stops being verified): the email
comes from coss.com as "Acme via coss.com", from coss.com's environment, so it doesn't appear in
  your emails.

An address on your environment's suppression list (it bounced, or complained) can't get codes,
whichever sender is used; with coss.com's sender, neither can one that bounced or complained
about coss.com's own emails. The verification fails with `recipient_suppressed`. Email codes cost nothing beyond the
verification itself.
